The Vacancy
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that our software products meet the highest standards of quality through rigorous testing processes.
This role focuses on shaping and embedding consistent testing best practices across application development whilst owning, maintaining, and executing our automated test approach. The Senior Automation Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve automation testing methodologies, with a focus on the use of AI technologies to improve how we test.
Key accountabilities & responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
Champion the use of AI tools and technologies across our testing practices
Drive best practices across the automation engineering processes, ensuring adherence to standards and automation test performance optimization.
Help us to shift left and ensure that quality is built in from the outset by validating requirements and test coverage across the lifecycle.
Mentor and guide team members, promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement in automation engineering.
Evaluate test effectiveness, identify opportunities to improve our automation framework, then implement and train our engineers on these improvements
Establish test governance frameworks for standards and compliance requirements.
Automation Testing:
Design, develop, and maintain the automation test framework using typescript or similar.
Create, update, and execute automated test scripts to align with evolving requirements.
Define, promote and embed the use of AI agent capabilities to improve automation engineering processes and delivery
Test Planning and Execution:
Provide expert guidance on functional, non-functional, and automation testing, including performance, security, compatibility and accessibility.
Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans, suites, and cases to ensure thorough test coverage.
Execute test cases across various levels of testing, including backend API testing.
Perform regression and feature testing to validate that new code changes do not negatively impact existing functionalities.
Evaluate, implement, and optimise test tooling, including AI-assisted solutions, to integrate with CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment) pipelines.
Understand the OWASP Top 10 and support security and performance testing using tools such as Burp Suite and JMeter/Artillery or equivalent.
Produce clear, actionable test reports and insights to inform decision-making and assurance activities
Manage and optimise test environments to ensure they support efficient automation activities
Database Management:
Perform SQL queries to validate data integrity within SQL Server databases.
Collaborate with the software engineering team to ensure proper database integration and testing.
Knowledge of schema migrations, preferred knowledge of Grate.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with team members and stakeholders to proactively communicate testing progress, results, and issues.
Collaborate with the Engineering and Product teams to understand objectives and align testing strategies accordingly.
Provide feedback to team members and participate in peer reviews of test plans and automation scripts.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance testing practices and methodologies, particularly in automation testing.
Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve overall product quality and testing efficiency.
Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to promote best practices within the team.
Experience:
Required:
Proven experience in designing and implementing automated test frameworks.
Strong background in SQL and database validation techniques.
Hands-on experience with Playwright, typescript, Node.js, Git for version control
Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and best practices in quality assurance.
Preferred:
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like Azure.
ISTQB certification, Certified Tester Test Automation Strategy (CT-TAS) qualification or equivalent.
8 years industry experience, 5 years Automation experience.
